Below I've presented some closed forms that I've made over the past couple of years.  I've got a few more half turned, but don't have the proper tools to do hollowing very efficiently.  Blame it on my Scotch ancestry.

I've got some tools half made too, but hey, you know how it is; you go out to the shop & whatcha gonna do, make a tool or a work of beauty?

I love the lady's leg in the figure.
Wood:  Elm burl
Size:  6" x 5" give or take
Finish: Danish oil
Driftwood at it's finest.  This was a log that floated up on the shore at my folks house.  I had a choice of whether to toss it on the bonfire last 4th of July, or to turn it.
This is a piece inspired by the "Garden Tomb" in Jerusalem.  It is made of spalted alder, representing the decay and corruption in the world, oak, mahogany and purpleheart; purple being a royal color, befitting the King of Kings.
Wood: alder
Size: 4 3/4" x 5"
Finish:  Tung Oil
Wood: Spalted Alder
Size:  4" x 2.5"
Finish: Lacquer
Potpourri dish
Wood: Rowan (a.k.a. mountain ash), bloodwood top
Size: 4 1/8"h  x 4 7/8" w
Finish: Lacquer
There's actually much more red in the top than appears in the picture.
Wood: Birch and bloodwood.  Size: 4 3/4" x 3 5/8".
Finish: Lacquer
Right: A shot of the top.  As above, the picture doesn't even come close to doing the bloodwood justice.  The carving on the rim could be a bit neater, but it's just my first attempt.
A walnut close form, with a slightly quilted maple lid.  The quilting doesn't show up too well in the photos unfortunately.  This piece is 4 1/2" high by 5 3/4" wide.
Mountain Ash hollow form with some carving around the rim.   The carving could be better but it's only my 2nd or 3rd attempt.  Could be a lot worse too!  The piece is about 6 3/8" x 4".

Several shots of a birch burl closed form.  It's about 5 1/2" high & 5 1/4" wide.  Finished with a coat or two of WaterLox.  Right: opposite sides of the piece.
