OPERATING SEASON

Chugach Powder Guides' operating season begins with snowcat operations in mid-December. The helicopters take to the sky starting late January and all operations cease mid- April. Each month offers its unique characteristics. Our recommendation for the best powder snow on all mountain aspects is early February to early March when the sun angle is lower and the temperatures are cooler. Daylight starts at 8 hours in late January and rapidly gains to 11 hours by the end of February so there's no difficulty achieving maximum vertical due to daylight.

Early March finds the days growing at close to 6 minutes a day. This dramatic increase creates corn snow conditions on southern exposures and cold powder on the shady, northern aspects. March is typically a big storm month with lots of snowfall. By early April, the days rapidly progress to over 14 hours, so bring your sunscreen and sunglasses! The seasonal warming mandates that we ski our higher elevations where we find a mixture of corn and powder snow. The goggle tan you go home with will prove to your friends that you've been heli-skiing.

No matter when you come to heli ski with us, you'll find lots of fun and the never-ending quest for powder!
