Winter in Valdez and Thompson Pass
Valdez
has the freshest snow on earth. With a long standing reputation for great
snows, more than 300 inches is measured annually in the city. In nearby
Thompson Pass more than 900 inches have been recorded. As one might expect
with this much snow, Valdez celebrates winter with alpine and cross country
skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, dog sledding, and ice climbing. Helicopter
and snowcat transportation provide the access for the downhill and back
