F ken Freedman Counseling
is my private practice specializing in individual and couples counseling. My degree (a Master of Arts in Counseling
Psychology, received in August, 1998, Prescott College, AZ) carries a specialty
in Gay, Lesbian, Bi-oriented, Trans- and Inter-gender and HIV/AIDS issues. My practice is based on an eclectic mix of
psychological philosophies and I shape the course of counseling to the needs of
each individual client.
I have researched and written numerous papers on Gay/Lesbian-affirmative
counseling; Gay and Lesbian identity, development, and psychology;
spirituality; and multicultural counseling*.
I invite you to read and/or download my papers; and welcome your
comments.
*In my practice and in my heart, multicultural counseling means valuing and
being actively mindful of the values held by cultural groups other than the
dominant one (in this case, White, Eurocentric, straight, and male). Being aware that Gays and Lesbians also exist
as a cultural minority shapes my practice as much as my awareness that people
from different cultural heritages may need and benefit from different approaches
in counseling.
I am openly Gay, a Community activist, Jewish, of Polish and Spanish
extraction, Buddhist in spiritual leanings, an avid reader, a runner, and a
cancer survivor.
