King Salmon!

Capt. Pete and Debra would like to congratulate John Damitz of Nikiski, AK. for placing 7th in the 5th Annual Homer Winter King Salmon Tournament. Fishing aboard the "Lora Lee" with Capt. Pete. John hooked his 29.345# king just 14 minutes after the derby began on Saturday, March 21st. The fish won John $2056 in prize money. Pete would like to thank Capt. Mike Hopley for his help the day of the derby and the use of the "Hopley Diver" lure which he baited for John that morning.

Fishing salmon with Captain Pete is always an adventure!  While our main goal is halibut, in season you can arrange to troll for King Salmon. Because of the wide open spaces involved with saltwater trolling, salmon hooked out here can give the angler an unforgettable fight.  From March through the middle of May we'll concentrate our efforts on the "feeder" kings in Kachemak Bay.  When the early run of migrating "spawners" arrive in late April and early May we'll start fishing the beach and intercept these larger fish, from Mid-June to Mid-July you can try your luck on catching a large trophy king salmon as they make their way North toward the Kenai river.

Seward Silvers and the Biggest Derby in Alaska
In early August we'll reluctantly leave our home "at the end of the road" and head for the other deep water port on the Kenai Peninsula...Seward is the home of the oldest derby in Alaska--1998 will be it's 43rd season. Although we'll be there fishing before the derby, it opens on August 8th and goes through the 16th.  Last year the top prize winner ($10,000) weighed in at over 18#.  The limit is 6 fish per day, so you can go away with a generous amount of fillets.  Silver salmon are great prepared any of your favorite ways, but are especially good smoked.
