Saltwater History

Saltwater Inc. is an Anchorage-based company which has been actively involved in Alaska's marine resources since 1985. We are a company committed to providing a supportive environment for our employees and to increasing understanding of the ocean resources. 

Who is Saltwater, Inc.?

Nancy, President, has written and reported about Alaska's marine affairs since 1973. She was chair of the North Pacific Fishery Management Council's Advisory Panel for five years, and currently serves on the Council's observer program advisory committee. Nancy received her MBA from the University of Alaska.

Debbie, Vice President of Operations, did commercial fisheries research for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game for six years before joining Saltwater, Inc. in 1985, and is a past President of the Alaska Chapter of Women's Fisheries Network. Debbie received her MBA from Thunderbird.

Kathy Robinson, Observer Coordinator, was one of the first shoreside observers in Kodiak and has completed numerous cruises on many types of boats and fisheries. Kathy travelled in Africa and China after completing her undergraduate work in natural resources and before coming to work for Saltwater in 1990.

Jo Ann Alvarez, Kodiak Field coordinator, worked as a groundfish observer for five years on a wide variety of vessels before she became a landlubber. Before coming to Saltwater Jo Ann fought wildfires in the western U.S. and gave natural history lectures and walks as a park ranger in Wisconsin.

Anne Vanderhoeven, observer coordinator, worked as a groundfish and crab observer on a variety of vessel types for a year before becoming an observer coordinator. Anne has worked as a landscape designer in the Southwest and is an amateur paleobotanist.

Mary Robinson, personnel coordinator, has a background in the biological sciences with a degree in scientific illustration from U.C. Davis. In addition to her work at Saltwater Mary organizes and escorts safaris on horseback in Africa.

Cathy (Cat) Lammers, administrative assistant, spends her busy days answering telephones and handling payroll. Cat is an 18 year Alaska resident who enjoys gardening, riding snowmachines and motorcycles.
