Job Openings

Saltwater, Inc. is always looking for motivated, energetic individuals to enhance our team. We would welcome the opportunity to hear from you. Check out the job requirements listed below, and then tell us about yourself.

Observer positions are seasonal and potentially short term. We are reluctant to encourage applicants from outside North America. The unpredictable duration of the fisheries could cause contracts to be terminated early, resulting in significant expense to individuals who travel great distances to Alaska.

Job Requirements

Observers must have 1) a college level course in math and statistics. 2) a B. S. in the biological field sciences, such as fisheries, natural resources, or wildlife biology. 3) 30 academic credits in biology. 4) Experience with a computer and 5) A college level course with use of dichotomous (taxonomic) keys.

How do I apply?

If you wish to be considered for an observer position, please fill out an application form and return it with your résumé (you may contact Saltwater, Inc. for one at the address below). Please list your relevant college courses on the application and provide a college transcript (it need not be an official transcript). Please make sure your transcripts show that your degree is conferred or enclose a copy of your diploma. We will review your application materials, and will write or call you if your educational background meets the requirements.

The benefits of observing are many. It is an adventure, a chance to see parts of Alaska you would never otherwise see, and an opportunity to learn about one of the most valued fisheries in the United States. Observing is also an educational experience. While at sea, observers commonly sight birds, whales, and other marine mammals, and they learn to identify many species of crab, scallops and fish common to the North Pacific. What you learn can be a very valuable asset on your résumé. Saltwater Inc. works hard to promote the value of observers' experience with both government agencies and private industry.
