Caribou Hunting

Our unguided, drop camp hunts are geared towards the experienced, self-sufficient hunter who doesn't need the daily supervision provided with a guided hunt. Based in King Salmon puts us in a very strategic location to access the Mulchatna caribou herd, a herd that has produced the current, and numerous former B&C world's record barren ground caribou.

Our unguided hunts are offered during the month of September. Particularly from the 10th of September and beyond, we can expect to find bulls hard-horned, and beginning their annual rutting ritual of gathering cows and becoming very active. Generally speaking, the bugs at this time of year are also beginning to taper off. We recommend that you plan on spending from 5-7 days in the field during a caribou hunt.

Moose Hunting

Our unguided moose hunts take place in 3 different game management units....in 2 units the season is September 5-15 for nonresidents, and 1 unit runs from September 10-20. An unguided moose hunt is VERY DEMANDING......PHYSICALLY, MENTALLY, EMOTIONALLY, ETC. Moose hunting requires a huge amount of patience. Unlike the "numbers" game with caribou, our moose are fewer in numbers. Unguided moose hunting success generally runs around 25%....regardless of who you go with.

The two moose pictured here have been taken by our clients in previous years, and both make the all-time B&C book! With that said, these are exceptional bulls, and should not be considered the norm. A legal bull must be at least 50-inches wide, or have at least 3 brow tines per side. Once a "legal" bull is downed, there is an incredible job ahead, taking care of the meat, cape and antlers! Not to mention the packing of all the same. Make sure you have the mental attitude and physical endurance to accomplish the work involved......on your own.
