When you're in the communications business for more than 30 years, memorable assignments make work worthwhile. (Many people think that media reporters have exciting jobs, with interesting assignments each day. Some days, that's true...like the assignment at the Chicago Tribune to determine how many tons of dog-doo were deposited each year on the Windy City. Or covering first-hand the historic construction of the Alaska pipeline. Or having a gun pulled on you while working undercover as a poll-watcher in the ghetto.)

Covering the news offers a front-row seat to the human condition and the world around us; helping others communicate their messages is even more rewarding.
