WHITEWATER

Peters Creek

Peters packs a punch of pickled peppers.  You may not talk like this now but if you're nutty enough to do this run you soon will.  High gradient, low volume and sharp rocks are the order of the day.  High water and low water runs are a handfull. Bring elbow pads. This run has slowly increased in popularity as the locals have gained experience with steep techinical runs.    Located just north of Anchorage in the town of Peters Creek.

Lil Su

The Little Susitna runs out of Hatcher Pass about a 90 minute drive north of Anchorage.  Ideal water levels are not very frequent but if you are vigilant you will be rewarded.  Embick gives it 4 stars.  It is small, steep, nearly continous rock garden.  No one falls asleep here unless they are looking to get their head examined(stitches, etc.)  This is Roger's favorite run in case you didn't know, just ask him.

Caribou Creek

Embick describes it as "spectacularly scenic and technically interesting."  The 33 ft. waterfall partway down the run adds to the grip factor.  The river has only been run by a handful of  boaters.  Ideal water levels are still up in the air, but common wisdom is err on the low side.  Class V primarily for the big drop and its remoteness.  Short fly-in or major drive-hike shuttle.
