MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR

Greetings! I hope everyone is having a happy holiday season. I'd like to thank everyone who contributed their thoughts about this publication and the Society's work. It gives valuable feedback and helps us determine the direction of the Alaska Regional Office. We enjoy hearing from you. If you have ideas for stories or issues that you would like to see featured, there are now more ways to contacts us than ever. While you are here leave your thoughts in our guestbook. I hope you enjoy this issue. It has been made possible with the contributions of many people, including the Alaska Funding Exchange, the GDSC, Carl Jack, Pam Miller and Dr. Glen Shaw. Some things on the horizon for the Society include:

Spring Scholarship Deadline
March 15, 1998 is the deadline for our next scholarship decision. We will award one scholarship of $500 to an Alaska Native or American Indian higher education student interested in pursuing a career in the natural sciences. Contact us for an application at (907) 257-2720, or download one here.

Alaska Regional Conference
The 5th Alaska Regional Annual Conference will be held April 7th - 9th, 1998 in Anchorage. The conference will have a strong technical focus while maintaining indigenous priorities. Past technical sessions have included: Ecosystem Management, TEK&W, Contracting & Compacting and Funding Opportunities. Other activities will include a traditional feast, dance groups and a lively auction with proceeds going to our scholarship fund. People interested in joining the Planning Committee should contact Michelle Davis at (907) 257-2720.

Enjoy the new year!
Lianna Jack
