One of the most rewarding events at the Society’s regional conference is the fund-raising auction for the Alaska regional scholarship fund. We always have some beautiful things, and after all, how many opportunities are there to shop and help our young people?

One outstanding item we had the privilege to auction was a handmade sled, donated by Howard Luke. It was a child’s sled, beautifully made in the traditional way. It was purchased by Dewey and Patty Schwalenberg, who donated it to the Alaska Native Heritage Center. It is a beautiful work of art and will be a fine addition to the ANHC’s collection. Thank you Mr. Luke for your donation, which is carrying our young people to their future. Thank you as well to Dewey and Patty Schwalenberg. The Schwalenburgs have been active Society members since it's inception, and their broad experience with Tribal resource management is greatly appreciated. They have made many contributions to the Alaska Region of the Native American Fish & Wildlife Society.
