Ken & Sherrie's PageKen & Sherrie Petty

We have been so blessed with God bringing us together. We have been married for 14 wonderful years. Ken is a helicopter pilot for Era Aviation. Era has had Ken flying all over the world for the past 15 years. (See Ken's Page for photos and his exciting postings). Sherrie works for Marathon Oil Company as a procurement coordinator. (See Sherrie's Page)

Combined we have 4 wonderful children. Ken's oldest is Jenny, followed by Sherrie's oldest, Michael, then Sherrie's youngest, Kristi  and Krista is Ken's youngest.

Jenny & her husband Todd live in Ventura, California. They have a darling daughter born in May of 2000. Jenny works part time and is attending college. They have quite a busy life, but are doing well.

Michael graduated from Tufts University (Medford, Massachusetts) in May of 2000. He now lives in Boston and is working full time for IBM (his company Rational Software was bought out by IBM). He is a software engineer and enjoys his job very much. He is playing in a summer baseball league and even a bit of hockey in the winter.

Kristi graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in May of 2001 as journalism (public relations) major with a Speech Communications minor. Kristi is finally back in Alaska as of May 2004. She is in Ketchikan where her boyfriend is a State Trooper. She is working for Grayline and enjoying greeting the cruise ship passengers as they begin their tours of Ketchikan. She is so glad to be back in Alaska and out of an office setting.

Krista is attending college where she is thinking of becoming a teacher, but is still keeping her options open. She is living at home and working part time, when not over playing with her niece. Her schedule keeps her busy as well.

So as you can see it is a challenge to keep up with all the kids and their busy schedules. It is such a blessing to see each of them growing up, moving in to adulthood, getting jobs, having children and becoming well rounded adults. We are proud of each of them.

Ken & I  love the outdoors. Hiking, biking, canoeing, camping are some of the activities we enjoy here in Alaska. With Ken's flying job we often get to see parts of beautiful Alaska that others are not so blessed to see. The summer of 1997 Ken was based in Fairbanks and worked in remote parts of the state on a BLM wildfire contract. I visited him several times and enjoyed the hot temperatures of Fairbanks that summer. We canoed the Chena River, visited the Chena Hot Springs and did some hiking. That year I was able to fly back to Anchorage with Ken. It was the end of the contract and a beautiful sunny fall day as we flew the helicopter past the spectacular mountain - Mt. McKinley (know here in Alaska as Denali). What an awesome sight that glacier-covered mountain was as we flew by!

Hole in the Wall GlacierThe summer of 1996 Ken was based in Juneau doing glacier tours. I was able to fly on several tours and see the breath-taking Juneau Ice field, land on the Norris Glacier, fly over the blue, jagged glacier called Hole in the Wall, as well as getting to know the gold rush town of Juneau.
On the glacier
On a sunny day, there is no place more beautiful than Juneau. Southeast Alaska is considered a moderate rain forest, so if you visit, be sure to bring your rain coat. Juneau is completely land locked, with only 40 miles of roads, and can be reached only by airplane or boat. It was the hard rock gold mining capital of the world during its hey day prior to World War II.  If you ever get the chance to travel the Inside Passage do not miss the historic city of Juneau.
