A standard format Pas d'Armes complete with company, shields, barriers and a gallery.

Come one, Come All!!!

Come join House Sea-Rose in celebrating My Lady's and My Knight's Birthday and Summer Solstice at the back of Centennial Park in the group campground on June 19-21.

We are planning to have a Pas-de-Armes led by Viscount Sir Georg of Glacier's Edge so bring your armor for a good day of fighting for Honor and Chivalry.

How it Went:

As hoped for. Lots of good speeches and lots of good fighting. The chivalry present formed the company - Viscount Sir Kylson, Viscount Sir Georg, Viscount Sir Nicholas, Sir Richenza. There were 5 challengers ~ Lord Alfonso, Lord William, Lord Eric, Lord Ronan, and Gyer

Gyer's introduction speech stood out and cost him the nickname 'the Silent' which he had used for many years. He spoke last and, in short, said that since the previous combatants were fighting for this or that particular lady, he would fight to honor all the other ladies present who no one had spoken on behalf of. Needless to say, this was well received by everyone.

Also a first at this event was a fighting crest - Lord Alfonso added a torse, mantle and white bear (albeit a stuffed animal) to go with the heraldic surcoat his lady, Mistress Cedrin, had made (picture). It only got knocked off once, during a pole-axe fight at the barrier.

Lessons Learned:

Keeping the fighting interesting and well paced for both fighters and the gallery remains a challenge. The addition of melees between challenge rounds helped, as it has helped others (something we picked up from the Company of St. George). We suspect that a Knight/Squire/Lady of Honor, to act as a go-between, is needed. This person could let the combatants know when a break or change of pace is needed and could facilitate the gallery's involvement.

We also found that the more period and attractive you make your list and fighters, the more noticeable mundane clothing and equipment becomes when it's beside the field. It's easy enough to overlook when you're there in person, but can really stand out in a photograph.
