Description:

A standard event, except for the addition of a discussion as described in the event copy.

In celebration of the season of love we will hold a revel at the manor of Francis Bull of Kent and Cassandra von Verden.

The Baronial Guard Tourney will be held at this time, so get your 3-person teams together. The tourney will begin at 1pm.

After the tourney we will hold a discourse on the definition of what a virtuous lady is (or should be) according to period songs, poems, and other literature. Please bring your ideas and any songs, poems, or other literature you would like to share.

When the discourse is finished, we will hold a bardic to praise love and the inspiration we receive from those we love. (Sounds like a good contest)

How it Went:

Exceptionally well. The first part of the event was a pretty standard SCA event with a tournament and whatnot. Everyone gathered inside after the fighting for food and then after that the discussion was started.

Mistress Ann of Bradford had made small scrolls, each with a short quote or piece of poetry, to hand out. Along with some material that others bought, these scrolls were used as starting points for discussion and a lot of interesting and often heartfelt discourse on virtuous ladies and grace did occur.

Lessons Learned:

This is an event to emulate. Some fighting, some schmoozing, some food, and then, when everyone is settled in and comfortable (but not tired), hit 'em with the deep stuff.
