Order of the Argent Bear
Ransom Tourney - Notice

Let all know that Their Excellencies of Eskalya, Tancred and Sorcha, Baron and Baronessa of that fine land, have decided that a tournament is to be held on the 2nd day of August. And this so that their Guard may be determined for the next half year and also to make opportunity for those acts of noble courage which it is right for men of arms to do and which are a pleasure for all to witness.

To this end a team ransom tourney shall be held, including both those teams which seek to be made Guard and those who do not, but nonetheless seek glory and renown for the Barony.

item - It is a team tourney in that combatants are encouraged, but not required, to form teams of up to three, either by prior arrangement or at the field that day. Those who would compete for Guard must form teams of exactly three.

item - It is a ransom tourney in that each individual or team, upon being defeated and returned to the List Table, must surrender to their captors a number of coins determined by each one's status. That is knights must pay more than squires and Earls more than knights and so forth as follows:

Duke or Sovereign    8 coins Earl or Count     6 coins
Baron or Viscount    4 coins Knight     3 coins
Squire    2 coins Lord or other    1 coin

item - Coins or tokens thereof shall be made available to each team in keeping with their status so that each team or individual begins with coins equal to three times their ransom.

item - That team which gains the most coins, regardless of starting purse, and which did, in fact, seek the honor of being Baronial Guard, shall be made such later that day if it is the will of the Baron and Baronessa.

item - Teams and individuals need not seek to become Baronial Guard to enter the tournament. But instead may enter to increase the renown and pageantry of the list and, by their share of honorable combat, to help select the Guard.

item - As the display of well kept arms and proud heraldry is known to bring fear into the hearts of one's enemies and pride into the hearts of one's people, it is thought right that teams be rewarded for excellent field appearance. To this end, extra coins, to be counted towards victory, shall be presented to those whose armor and heraldic display bring credit to the List.
