Order of the Argent Bear
Coronet Feat - Notice

Up

It has long been custom for warriors of noble intent to take upon themselves some task of arms, so that they may give test to their skill, create opportunity for many to share the camradery of honorable combat, and, most importantly, give due honor to fair and noble ladies. For these causes, Sir Georg and Lord Alfonso d'Strada will make prepared a list field and stand thereby during the third day of the Coronet Tourney and Investiture Event neigh upon us. And they do invite the many noble warriors of Oertha and of otherwhere to join them at that field, for the causes stated above, as well as those given below.

Sir Georg, as Champion to Her Excellency, Mistress Sorcha, Baroness of Eskalya, has offered noble combat to any who will, that Her Excellency may be honored by the display of courage, courtesy and prowess of both combatants. For he finds it most fitting that a lady of such renowned skill, charm and grace should be well considered during his tenure as her champion. And since the times of King Arthur and before, such honors have oft been shown by displays of arms. Therefor, the task he sets himself is this, to meet in joust, with weapons as each should select, seven and ten noble warriors, this number being the number of years for which the Barony of Eskalya has held land in the name of the King.

Lord Alfonso, bearing great fondness for the station of the Princess Oertha, does offer to joust with any who would do him the favor of noble combat, that by the display of arms and willingness to engage in combat thereby, all may do honor to the gentle and noble ladies which have, and do, grace our lands as Princess. And since the spear is a most proper weapon, and well favored by great knights of ancient times, he chooses it thereby, and asks that noble warriors met him on the list with spear in hand. And whereas there will have been one and twenty reigns on the day of the gathering, the task he sets is this, to meet in joust with spear one and twenty warriors, each combat in honor of each reign in Oertha.

Thirdly, as all should know, Oertha does have the too rare privilege of the attendance of the Queen of the West and it is fit that there be given opportunity for combat in her honor. To this end a shield will be hung beside the list, whereby combat in the Queen's honor may be chosen. In this matter, it seems most fit that others besides Sir Georg and Lord Alfonso have fair opportunity to accept the task of these combats. Therefore, let others come forth on the appointed day and stand for a time, as circumstances allow, to accept the combat asked for in the Queen's honor. And whereas the Queen is of the most exalted station, it seems right that those accepting combat to her honor should likewise be of proven virtue and skill. For this cause, none should take this charge, save that they have been dubbed Knight, or that their honor and prowess has been vouched for by such a Knight or by her Majesty. But let any warrior, of any station, seek combat by striking the shield, that we may, as an assembly show honor to the Queen and our appreciation for her long travels. And since for a full ten and twenty years the Kingdom of the West has stood, may a full ten and twenty warriors come forth to give noble combat in this endeavor.

Item - On the twenty third day of July, A.S. XXX, this day being Sunday, the third day of the coronet tournament and investiture, a list field nearby to the encampments will be prepared. There combat will be held from morn until as late as it may, in the hope of finding warriors as are enough to meet the tasks set herein.

Item - Beside the field shall hang a shield, argent, emblazoned with a flower, gules. Let any strike this shield to show that they desire to meet in combat to honor Her Excellency, Mistress Sorcha, Baroness of Eskalya. And, as Sir Georg has chosen, this combat may be with any weapons or form. To each who is victorious will be presented a fine blossom in recognition of their prowess. To all who give combat will be presented a ribbon of gules, that by display of color, honor may be well shown for the Baroness.

Item - Beside the field shall hang a shield, argent, emblazoned with a spear, gules. Let any strike this shield to show that they desire to joust to the honor of the Princesses of Oertha. This combat to be with spear, with or without the barrier. And as was oft the custom in friendly combat, let the blows be struck between the four members, meaning neither to the arms nor to the legs nor to the head. In this manner should victory be given to the first in each combat to land a stout blow to the body. To each who is victorious will be presented a token of azure Venetian glass. To all who give combat will be presented a ribbon of azure, that by display of color, the fondness that we each carry for Her Highness, Mistress Anne, for her Successor, and for the many Ladies who have reigned before, may be made known.

Item - Beside the field shall hang a shield, per pale, or and vert. Let any strike this shield to show the desire to meet in combat in honor of Her Majesty Keira Lye, Queen of the West. And let the terms and conventions of the combat be set by the noble and skilled warrior who has taken task to stand beside the shield, as they feel will best show honor to Her Majesty. To each who is victorious in this combat will be presented a token formed of a ringlet, or, on a ribbon, vert. To all who give combat in honor of the Queen will be presented a ribbon of vert, that by such display of color, Her Majesty, who has so little opportunity to visit these far lands may know for a certainty in what high regard we hold the Queen of the West.

Item - Whereas this is a day of investiture and celebration, it seems ill fitting that blood should be spilt too freely, so will all combat be with bated weapons. However, should any attend who are not subject of the Kingdom of the West, to those may be given combat with the weapons of war if they so desire it.

Herein are set forward the plans and invitation to make ready and join in noble combat. It is our true and simple hope that all of the Knights, Masters, Squires and Men-at-Arms who attend this event will have opportunity to join their companions in these displays of arms, so that we may show as an assembly what no few of us could show alone - the universal esteem in which these Ladies are held by the many warriors of Oertha.

    Sir Georg            Alfonso d'Strada
