Hi, my name is Scott Roberge and I own Tongass Kayak Adventures. I've been called an "old timer" in the sea kayak guiding world, though I prefer the term "experienced."

I began organizing kayaking, skiing and hiking trips in 1976, back when I was a broke college student who loved to get outdoors. Leading tours to great areas around the West Coast, I refined and strengthened my guiding skills.

My life changed forever when I came to Petersburg, Alaska in the summer of '81. I paddled an old Grumman canoe all over Southeast Alaska and got hooked!

In 1985, I started a kayak tour company and spent the next ten years teaching thousands of people to kayak in the waters of Mexico, the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.

In those days we lived out of our van with a trailer of kayaks behind. We had lots of fun, but spending only three months in Alaska just wasn't enough. Today, I only organize trips out of Petersburg, Alaska, my home, through Tongass Kayak Adventures.

We are a small company that prides itself on offering the best paddling experience possible in the wilds of Alaska. My guides are all trained in emergency first-aid and sea kayak safety. All tours carry radios and wilderness emergency gear to ensure you a safe and enjoyable adventure.

To learn more about our tours, please check out the online slide show and customer testimonials or contact me directly.

Meet Your Guides

Scott

Owner and lead guide at Tongass Kayak. He has been leading kayak trips since 1985. Well-known for his outdoor cooking skills, Scott whips up some amazing culinary delights during his trips.

Scott's pick: Even though he's paddled into LeConte Glacier Bay hundreds of times, it's still his favorite destination.

LeAnn

She has worked with Scott since the late 1980's. She started her paddling life on the rivers of West Virginia, but now prefers sea kayaking. LeAnn's a great storyteller (must be the West Virginian influences) and a person you will not soon forget.

LeAnn's pick: Whales, whales whales!

Eric

Eric has been an outdoor enthusiast since he was a kid. These days when Eric's not guiding for us he is traveling. Central and South America have been his destinations in recent years. This will be his 5th season with Tongass Kayak Adventures.

Marja

Marja began working for us as an intern from Western Washington University where she studied Recreation and Spanish. An avid traveler and outdoors-woman, Marja is more at home in nature than she is on busy city streets. She loves to explore the woods--her enthusiasm for local plants and natural history is contagious!

Julie

Coming from the rolling hills of Wisconsin, Julie grew up on the water canoeing so the switch to sea kayaking was easy. In the winters, you will find her working in a medical clinic and playing in the snow. Her energetic personality and love of Southeast Alaska will enhance your adventure with us.
