her grave in Lahaina. Kamehameha III was the last son of Kamehame the Great, ascended
the throne of Hawaii when he was ten years old, on death of older brother, Liholiho
(Kamehameha II) in London. Kuhina-nui Kaahumanu governed as regent during Kauikeaouli's
boyhood with the assistance of a council of chiefly advisors. His reeign of 29
years was the longest of any Hawaiian monarch.
