[PT] [ACS] Continuity
Top | feedback

This page is an effort to coordinate management of my digital assets after my passing or incapacitance. (It is adapted from Eric S. Raymond's continuity page).

If I'm out of the game, and the designated executors listed here don't know it, please email them all with a link to this page. Executors should also use this page to track and coordinate asset status and new locations.

Digital assets

I designate Bryan Medsker and David Kohfield, both of Anchorage, AK, to be my Internet and computer co-executors. They have the authority to coordinate whatever actions are needed to transfer my projects into safe hands. Stephanie Bauer of Anchorage, AK and Jack and Carol Williams of Loma, CO will have insight into what my wishes might be, and I want them to also be involved and consulted.

Domains and sites

roycewilliams.net
A permanent centralized location for information about me and my post-mortem status, and a receptacle of existing original content not otherwise outlined here. As cheap as domain registration and hosting is, both should be extended for 10 years after my death or permanent incapacitation.
Royce's Alaskan License Plates
Domain, content and curatorship to be transferred to Dirk Starck of Eagle River, AK to do with as he sees fit. This also includes the related domains 'akpl8s.org' and 'pl8.net'.
tycho.org (domain)
To be retained until all email-related business has been conducted, plus one year. Afterwards, domain registration to be retained by my family, or released to Tycho Sleator, as my family sees fit.
The Green Futures of Tycho site contents
Content and curatorship to be transferred to Tycho Sleator to do with as he sees fit.
Bamaland
Content and curatorship to be transferred to Robert S. ("Sam") Travis to do with as he sees fit.
Hacking the Whistle Interjet
Content and curatorship to be transferred to Julian Elischer of the FreeBSD Project to do with as he sees fit.
Various personal social networking sites
Update with an appropriate notice of my status, and a link pointing to roycewilliams.net. A list of many of them can be found under the "Stalker One-Stop Shopping" sidebar on my blog, RoyceBits.
RoyceBits
Update with an appropriate notice of my status, and a link pointing to roycewilliams.net.
Bartlett Class of 1990
To be determined. Consider contacting Carrie Smolden or Lora Whitmore Nordstrom for ideas.
roycewilliams.* and royce.* domains
To be retained by executors to have them transferred to others, governed by the terms specified at http://www.alaska.net/~royce/domains/.
kayden.org domain
To be retained by executors to transfer to my neice, Kayden Hughes of Grand Junction, CO. Contact Hayley Hughes of Grand Junction, CO to coordinate.
eliashall.com domain
To be retained by executors to transfer to Elias Hall of Anchorage, AK. Contact Meghan Hall, Jeff Hall, or Lisa Aquino to coordinate.
stephaniebauer.com domain
Control to be retained by executors to transfer to my wife, Stephanie Bauer of Anchorage, AK. She is already the domain registrant.
techsolvency.com domain
To be reviewed by executors for transfer of any projects therein. Update pages with an appropriate notice of my status, and a link pointing to roycewilliams.net.
pl8.com domain
Transfer to ALPCA as a donated asset. Contact the ALPCA Secretary to coordinate.
All other domains
Content and curatorship to be transferred to my digital executors to do with as they see fit. Most of my domains are registered with Namecheap.
Domain registration contacts
Any domains for which I am technical contact on others' behalf will need a new technical contact. My executors can select appropriate replacements.

Other digital assets

Primary email addresses
To be monitored for emails from people that I know for a period of at least two years, so that they can be notified. The most likely to be used are royce@tycho.org, royce.williams@gmail.com, royce@tycho.org, and royce@techsolvency.com.
Mailing-list and listserv subscriptions
Unsubscribe. Perhaps consider a list of list memberships as a page on roycewilliams.net.

Physical assets

My computers
Servers to be replaced with minimal functionality to support current household requirements. Contents to be backed up and provided to my parents, Jack and Carol Williams, and to Stephanie Bauer. Hardware to be disposed of by my digital executors to do with as they see fit.
Other computer hardware, parts, and accessories
To be distributed as my digital co-executors see fit.
Media
After contents are managed as above, all writeable media should be wiped or destroyed as outlined here. All non-personal read-only media (software and game CDs, etc.) should be sent to Jason Scott, associated with the Internet Archive.
My license plate collection
(Not really digital, but included here for completeness.) To become the property of any children that I may have. Stephanie Bauer and my parents may select any that they would like to keep as well. For any portion of the collection that any of the above do not wish to retain, I recommend that Dirk Starck of Eagle River, AK be consulted to broker any sales.
All my other non-personal projects and FAQs will be up for grabs. If you want to claim control of one, send mail to my virtual executors. They'll arbitrate between conflicting claims, arrange the transfer, and flag the project here as claimed.

People to notify (other than the above), to notify their colleagues as appropriate:

Additional instructions for executors: Please add appropriate notice, pointing to roycewilliams.net, to the top of my various home pages and social networking pages. Please also post some kind of notice to the AKLUG and freebsd-sparc64 mailing lists (and any other lists that I regularly posted to as evidenced by my "lists" folder in Gmail). Please also notify the #hashcat and #passwordscon channels on Freenode. My designated next-of-kin is my wife, Stephanie Bauer.

And some parting thoughts ...

Unpleasant Ways to Die by Elan Fleisher. One of my favorites.

There's a big difference between "dead" and "mostly dead". - Miracle Max

And here's a cartoon from Harry Bliss that seems appropriate.

Harry Blass comic from 2007-10-17. If you folks can give me a couple minutes, I do believe a table's opening up.

It was fun, wasn't it?
