A retainer is an amount paid to an attorney to ensure that he will be paid for his services at the end of the month.
JOHNSON & KIM, PC places the retainer in a trust account. At the end of each month, money is removed from the trust account to pay for that month's services. Each month, you will receive a detailed trust statement showing your present balance and any deposits or withdrawals that have been made that month.
Except in Flat Fee situations, such as bankruptcy and criminal cases, our retainers are refundable. Thus, if there is money left in the trust account at the end of the case, it will be refunded to you. If the money in trust is used up before the case ends, you are required to replenish the trust account by keeping a minimum balance of $500 in trust.
