Criminal Law

If you have been charged with a crime, it is critical that you obtain an attorney to advise you of your rights.

Prior to trial, the prosecution is obligated to allow you to review the evidence they have against you.  An attorney will review the evidence in order to determine whether you have any legal or factual defenses.

If you have any defenses your attorney can attempt to have the charges dismissed or negotiate with the prosecution on your behalf for a lesser charge or more lenient sentence.  If the prosecution will not concede the validity of your defenses, your attorney will take the case to trial and argue them to a jury of your peers.

For the average layperson, criminal law is simply too complex to learn in the short amount of time you have before a trial.
