introduction

dijit is a true american success story, a historical landmark that will inspire future generations to work harder and smarter. ok, maybe not. dijit was a "company" founded with my friends dan and jasen back in 6th grade. the idea was to each work on seperate games, and use the company name/website to pressure us into keeping up with work. eventually we grew to 6 members by the end of dijit in mid 1998. everybody switched projects quite a bit, as you can see looking at the dijit website and comparing it to the early projects listed in the article below. it was a great deal of fun while it lasted, but eventually i was started to get sort've fed up with updating the website and feeling pressure to actually work instead of slack off, and so i left as dijit was declining and soon after it just sort've ended. perhaps the best way to describe dijit would be to reprint an old article i wrote about us in the 6th grade elementary school computer lab:

dijit article : april 7, 1997

DiJiT is a company, more of a group in fact. It was founded by Jasen, Dan, and I several weeks ago, and I would like to share it's point, and the minor struggle we had starting it.

I had an idea for a company several weeks ago after hearing of The Marathon Mapmakers group, 40 people who created "add-ons" for the popular 3-D Macintosh game Marathon. Their large projects got them regognized in the on-line community, and being the power-hungry world dominator that I am, wanted a piece. And so the next school day I introduced my idea to Jasen and Dan.

They liked the idea, but it took some time for them to truly get interested. I sent out several e-mails over the next few days and laid out the plans. We would each be partners in this, no one being of greater importance then the other. And we would create "add-ons" until finally one of us got ambitious enough to write some code(being as how most of us know how to program, but are too lazy to use our talents).

The next step was to name the group, the step that took the longest. Through intensive e-mails over a period of 2 some weeks, we had a list of possible names 35 some lines long. Somewhat desperate for a name, I addressed my mom in the kitchen and she suggested using our names in the group. Dan, Jasen, and Troy, DJT- DiJiT. It was misspelled, but that didn't matter.

I started working on some company logos after making sure DiJiT was an alright name with Dan and Jas, but came up with nearly nothing. Dan had recently gotten Bryce 2 then, and sent me a sample picture with a torus with a sphere in the middle(and a small beach in the background). I loved the design, and went into Bryce 2 myself and created the same design, but added violet clouds under a black background, and came up with a great looking logo. I sent it to Jasen and Dan(Jasen didn't get the pict due to modem malfunctions) and Dan said he loved it(I'm going to show Jas at his party). DiJiT was created and ready.

Being a digital(pun intended) group, we needed a large webpage for hyping our projects, and decided to share bandwidth by combining our accounts on Internet Alaska's server through links. We have yet to complete this 3 meg monstrosity, but it shouldn't be too hard if Dan and I share the HTML work. And so soon shall you be able to find us at http://www.alaska.net/~LDPJ, and perhaps one day we will even get our own DNS at www.dijit.com, if we are so lucky.

I hope that we will have many years of service to the on-line community, and perhaps one day we will be able to start charging for our work :-)! But for now, we remain somewhat small and humble, and await the finishing of our four projects- Brigt, QWUARKE(WarQuake scrambled, go figure), Countdown, and Jasen's Star Wars conversion for Quake.

dijit website

the first dijit website went live in october 1997, five months after the group was created. it featured a black and purple design and pushed my early developing webmaster skills to their limits. after a few months, i redesigned the site to be a cleaner, brighter white page. we updated the news page quite often as things arose.

when dijit shut down, i zipped the website and put it on a zipdisk. a few months ago(early 2001), i decided it'd be fun to put up the old dijit website for nostalgic purposes, but unfortunately the zip file had been seriously corrupted. i was bummed out until about a week ago(august 2001), when i realized i could salvage the site with a bit of sweat. and so after a few hours work, the dijit website has been restored. all of the garbage has been removed from around the files, and the images resaved in a fresh jpeg format. all of the links have been made local so that the site will be easy to move around. basically, the restored website should be good for awhile. so, here it is:
