British Isles Tour 2001

Day Sixteen:  Thursday, July 12, 2001

1:30 a.m., Anchorage:  An update from Michael, via Sherry Sims, and from Matt, who I just spoke with:

Today was the group's last full day in Edinburgh, and their whole day was free to do whatever they wished.   The coach dropped everyone off in downtown Edinburgh at 10:00 am, and they were free until 4:00 p.m.!

Many of the kids, accompanied by tour adults, went to the new Edinburgh Dungeon*, described as an "indoor theme park of historical horror".  Sherry got the lowdown on The Dungeon from Mike and Vera (who was the background), and I heard all about it from Matt.  The kids obviously thought the Edinburgh Dungeon was very entertaining!

At 5 p.m., the group went back to the hotel and packed up their garment bags, and then went to their farewell dinner at the Royal Overseas League Restaurant. Then they returned to the hotel to finish packing for tomorrow.  They are now snug in their beds, catching some sleep in preparation for their early rise and journey home tomorrow.  I will post updates as I receive them on tomorrow's page.

A note to those who sent e-mail messages to choir kids:  There are fifteen unopened messages to choir members in the ACC's Internet Alaska mailbox.  If you sent your child an e-mail message after July 4th, it was never retrieved from the online WebMail site.  Could everyone who sent messages please e-mail me at cscox@gci.net and let me know what you would like me to do with your message?  I can:

  • Print out the message and bring it to the airport tomorrow night for you to deliver to your child.

  • Forward the message to another e-mail address.

  • Delete the message.

Please let me know as soon as possible what you would like done with your message.  Thanks!

*Webmaster's little tidbit: I just checked out the review of The Edinburgh Dungeon and was astounded to see "the notorious Scottish cannibal Sawney Bean" mentioned. For all my married life, my husband (Matt's dad) has, with twisted humor, talked about his ancestor, Sawney Bean, the last person hung in Scotland for cannibalism!  He was given this bit of family lore from his great-grandmother, Catharine Bean Cox, who hails from Clan McBane (of which Bean is a variant).  I, too, am of Scottish ancestry, however my Russells would never do such a thing!
