Summary of Experience:
I have been working as a structural engineer since the summer before I graduated from college in 1991.  The majority of my projects have been buildings, though I have also done a number of vehicular and pedestrian bridges.
Building Types:
I have designed and analyzed the structures of many types of buildings, including schools, churches, hospitals, commercial buildings, residences, hotels, warehouses, airports, military buildings, government buildings, and many more.
Engineering Materials:
I have extensive experience working with concrete, masonry, wood, structural steel, and light gage steel.  I have also worked on aluminum structures ranging from gangways to structures for the US government's facilities at the south pole.
Arctic Engineering:
I am familiar with the requirements of building engineering in arctic environments.  Nearly all of my experience is within the state of Alaska, with the exception of a few projects in Antarctica.
Analysis Techniques:
While simple buildings lend themselves to hand calculation and analysis, on more complex projects, I utilize such computer programs as Enercalc, Staad, Etabs, and Excel.  The most complicated computer design model I have written was for the South Pole Modernization project.  This model had 300 load/support conditions and thousands of joints and members and it took nearly eight hours to run on a Pentium I, 133 MHz.  On a Pentium III, 650 MHz, the same program now takes only 25 minutes.
