Herring-Bone
Herring bone works with any skis except snowboards. It is hardest with alpine equipment since the skis are so heavy.
  • Use on steep uphills.
  • faster than side step.
  • It gets its name from the way the tracks resemble fish bones.

To herring-bone

  • Splay your skis out in a duck walk position.
  • Walk uphill jambing the edges of the skis into the snow.
  • You are less likely to fall if you put alot of weight on your poles.
  • If you can step farther forward you don't have to straddle as far appart.
