PARITY AND MANAGED CARE

• Fight only one fight at a time: parity bills should I only seek equitable financial treatment for mental health disorders. They are not managed care reform bills.
• Parity bills have a better chance of passage if they assume the existence of managed care.
• Diagnoses do not need to be named if services under a parity bill are determined by "medical necessity" as are all other services in managed care.
