InterJet
does not connect when using 3Com Impact IQ
|
| Problem: |
The InterJet does not recognize
a 3Com Impact IQ ISDN terminal adapter. When trying to connect,
the LCD on the InterJet will typically display "no dial tone"
or "modem not responding". |
| Solution: |
Connect the 3Com Impact
IQ terminal adapter directly to a PC and configure the TA
with the disks provided by 3Com. To download the latest 3Com
Impact IQ drivers, visit the 3Com web site at www.3com.com.
When running the installation
utility (SPID wizard), you will need to enter your ISDN
numbers. You may need to contact your ISP to obtain them.
After you run the configuration, then connect the TA to
your InterJet.
Please note that to reconfigure
the TA (i.e. for multi-link PPP and 56K toll saver calls),
you must once again connect the TA to your PC and run the
SPID wizard again. After each change, ensure you check the
"update" button before exiting.
Please note this issue
will be resolved in the next release of WhistleWare.

InterJet
appears to remain connected all the time when using dial
on demand
|
| Problem: |
Customer has dial on demand
connection with ISP. Connections are successful, but the InterJet
never appears to disconnect. |
| Solution: |
Check the "check for incoming
mail" settings. Make sure incoming mail time is greater than
the "idle time to disconnect" setting. Try a "check for incoming
mail" setting of 4 hours as a first approximation.
Also check client machine
settings. They may be set to surf at intervals when the
browser is active, or an information retrieval program,
such as PointCast, may regularly access the an Internet
site. These activities will cause the InterJet to remain
connected to the Internet.

InterJet
does not connect, may report PPP authentication error
|
| Problem: |
The InterJet returns "PPP
authentication error" when attempting to connect using ISDN. |
| Solution: |
- Test the ISDN physical
layer by connecting an analog (not digital) phone to the ISDN
line. A steady click, click, click indicates at least one
ISDN channel is active.
- Test each B channel
separately with the ISP connection by de-checking the "Use
both B channels" box and using one SPID and number at a
time.
- Verify the user name
and password are correct.
- Go to the System agent's
Ports tab. Disable the external serial port and click Apply.
Then change the settings back again to re-enable the external
port and click Apply again. This will force the InterJet
to reconfigure the TA the next time it dials.
Try re-booting the InterJet.

ISDN setup
requires 2 different telephone numbers
|
| Problem: |
When using both B channels
for ISDN connectivity, an ISP may assign two different phone
numbers to achieve multi-link PPP. The InterJet serial port
setup includes only one phone number field. |
| Solution: |
To use two phone numbers
to connect to your ISP, go to the System agent's Ports tab,
and edit the external serial port. Enter the first telephone
number into the serial port telephone number field, followed
by an ampersand (&) and then the second phone number. |

InterJet
won't recognize BitSurfr ISDN modem
|
| Problem: |
When connecting a BitSurfr
modem to the InterJet, the InterJet responds with a message
indicating the BitSurfr does not have the correct firmware. |
| Solution: |
The InterJet requires at
least revision J of the BitSurfr Pro modem. If the modem has
less than rev J, the firmware can be upgraded by downloading
new software from Motorola's Internet site. The software can
be found at http://www.mot.com. |

After upgrading
or installing ISDN connections, the customer phone bill
is higher than expected
|
| Problem: |
After upgrading or installing
ISDN connections, the customer phone bill is higher than expected,
particularly compared to an analog connection. |
| Solution: |
Check your InterJet's connection
settings to limit connection time.
- Change "Disconnect after
x idle time" to its lowest setting, 2 minutes.
- Change "Check for mail"
to a longer setting (for example, 30 minutes or 1 hour).
- Change "Process outgoing
mail" to a longer setting (for example, 30 minutes).
Check client machines
for any automatic browsing software, such as PointCast.
Clients with automatic external pop mail checks will also
cause regular InterJet connections to the Internet.
The WhistleWare System
Agent/Logs information can be used to determine the cause
and length of each InterJet connection, and help refine
appropriate connection and client settings.

ISDN connection
using Centrex unsuccessful
|
| Problem: |
ISDN connection using Centrex
unsuccessful |
| Solution: |
Local Centrex connections
normally use a phone number such as "#171".
- If the customer has
a Centrex connection, contact the Centrex Administrator
to verify the appropriate phone number.
- If this short phone
number is unsuccessful, test the ISDN setup by using a full
phone number, including area code. If the full phone number
is successful, the Centrex setup needs to be checked by
the telco.

Cannot enter
full phone number into ISDN setup fields
|
| Problem: |
An ISDN setup requires
2 full phone numbers with area code. Version 1.1 will accept
20 digits, and 21 are needed in this instance. |
| Solution: |
Upgrade to the latest version
of WhistleWare, which does allow 21 digit entry in the ISDN
phone number field. |
