Newly installed Windows 95 client reports DHCP errors.

Problem:

After using the InterJet¨ Windows 95 Installer, the Windows 95 client reports DHCP errors. The client completed phase 1 of the installation process successfully, but did not complete the request for machine reboot within a few minutes.

Solution:

Click OK when the DHCP warning occurs. Then reboot the Windows 95 client at your earliest convenience. This restarts the DCHP leasing process correctly, and the client will function correctly with the InterJet.

Setting up Windows 3.11 (Windows for Workgroup) clients

Problem:

Windows 3.11 clients cannot successfully use Trumpet Winsock provided with the InterJet.

Solution:

This fix requires a Microsoft patch. Download and install a TCP/IP stack from Microsoft's Internet site. Once this file is set up, the Windows 3.1 clients will be able to use the InterJet's DHCP server and use other InterJet services.

  • Browse to ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/clients/wfw.
  • Download tcpip32b.exe onto a floppy diskette.
  • Copy the tcpip32b.exe file onto the hard drive of the Windows 3.1 computer and run the program.
  • Double click the Network Drivers dialog box. Add protocols and select "unlisted or updated protocols".
  • Enter the path to the driver files. Once the protocol appears on the list, select it and set up TCP/IP.
  • Select DHCP, fill in the parameters, and close the file.
  • Restart the Windows 3.1 computer. It will now access the InterJet using DHCP.

Setting up Windows 3.1 clients using Novell Netware

Problem:

Windows 3.11 clients using a Novell Netware server cannot successfully use Trumpet Winsock provided with the InterJet.

Solution:

Download and install a TCP/IP file from Novell's Internet site. Once this file is set up, the Windows 3.1 clients will be able to use the InterJet's DHCP server, access the InterJet via a browser, and use full InterJet services.

  • Browse to www.novell.com/download. Scroll down and select IntranetWare Client. To search for TM check box for DOS Windows in english. Then click on "IntranetWare Client TM 2.2 for DOS and Windows." Select "Download Novell Software".
  • Download the files.
  • Copy the files onto diskette, and then the hard drive of the Windows 3.1 computer with a utility such as winzip or pkzip.
  • Use the installation wizard to install the TCP/IP software. Make sure Netware/IP is not selected.
  • Restart the Windows 3.1 computer.
  • To use dynamic IP assignment, edit the net.cfg file in the \Novell\client32 directory. Make the following charges in the PROTOCOL TCPIP section of the file:
PROTOCOL TCPIP
IF_CONFIGURATION DHCP (take this line out if using static up addressing) PATH TCP_CFG C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32|TCP
;IP_ADDRESS (put address here if using a static ip address)
;IP_ROUTER (put address here if using a static ip address)
;IP_NETMASK (put address here if using a static ip address)
  • If you are using static IP addressing, remove the semicolons in the last 3 lines and comment out the first line.
  • Save the file changes and reboot the Windows 3.1 computer.
