If you subscribe to one of the online
services, then you are familiar with annoying junk e-mail touting
fast ways to make money or pop-up windows trying to sell you products
and services you don't need. It is because sending e-mail messages
through the public Internet is free that unscrupulous marketers use
e-mail as an inexpensive way to advertise their products, often sending
mass mailings of unsolicited e-mail messages-popularly known as "spam"-to
unsuspecting recipients. Spam wastes your valuable time because you
must sort through it. It can even cost you money if your Internet
connection uses a metered phone service and the meter is running while
you download spam from your mail server.
The spam-blocking filter in the InterJet¨
II is a business-class solution that helps to eliminate junk e-mail
before it has a chance to clog up your electronic inbox. The InterJet
II identifies and deletes spam by comparing your incoming emails against
a huge database of known "spammers". This feature can help
save you and your employees the trouble of reading junk mail.
How This Feature
Works
When spam blocking is on, as shown in the following figure, the InterJet
II compares the IP addresses of all incoming e-mail messages against
a large database of IP addresses known to send spam. If the InterJet
II finds any matches, it deletes the messages from your mail server
before you can download them. The database that the InterJet II uses
is the Real-time Blackhole List, which is maintained by a non-profit
Internet user watch group, the Mail Abuse Protection System (MAPS).
If you prefer not to filter your e-mail, you can simply turn off spam
blocking.
