Player Emails
(a chronological archive of all emails sent out during the season)
April 3rd
Warm Sunday Greetings.
1. Be prepared to be either indoors or outdoors on any day. Bring a
bag with your full sweats, indoor shoes, cleats or outdoor shoes,
glove, water, snacks. In short, anything you need and make sure it is
packed and by the front door the night before so we no longer have to
worry about " I forgot my........". Even a good thing to do with all
your school needs: gather, collect and prepare before you go to bed.
Then you can do the frantic swoop-and-go in the morning and not
worry. (This has served me very well from a work standpoint also when
I have to do a late night hospital dash and do not have time to wake
up or think before I am out the door)
2. Bring your clean practice jersey with you on Monday and I will
collect them and take them with me to put on the core covenants.
Now, for my 30 seconds of focus, please.
3. Speaking of Core Covenants (Dedication-Discipline-Respect). We
have had a chance to learn how those apply to life and practice in
this last week. Some lessons are "inexpensive"- you get to learn from
the mistakes of others. Some are "expensive" - you get to learn
yourself at some measure of psychic, emotional or physical pain. We
ARE holding practices 6 days a week. Sometimes they are just for a
select group (like pitchers/catchers or infielders or whatever) but
we are still holding them. Our coach expectation is that you will be
there and at the very least will make a personal contact with the
appropriate coach to tell us that you will not be there ( many of our
plans for practice are based on assuming who will be there). We do
not want to hear third-hand, we do not want to wonder where everyone
is. You get the idea. We do not want to know days ahead as our
memories are not that good. Not showing for practices touches on all
three covenants at several levels. When I mentioned that all
practices are "optional" ( since we are not going to hunt you down
and physically drag you to them) I did not mean to imply that we
didn't expect that you will be at every one. I just meant to suggest
that as adults you have to understand that the choices you make for
yourself always have consequences- and you are often surprised at the
extent of those consequences. Potentially, one of those "expensive"
lessons.
End of sermon.
If you have not read the Handbook on the website, this might be a
good time. No one has won either of the two prizes that are still out
there on the website yet either.
See you Monday

Ladies-
A very positive but somewhat fragmented four weeks of practice. This
is the week it all comes together and I expect that teams will be
separated at the end of the week. We do have a peripatetic schedule
this coming week so you need to pay attention. I also anticipate that
we will have everyone back and all those that have been on the fence
will commit one way or the other. Looking forward to seeing you all
on Monday.

Mariners Softball Players
A good first week. We are all impressed with the energy and progress
that has happened in this last week. Good to see you all getting
stronger, better balanced and more confident.
Practice the week of March 7-12 will mostly be at the High School Gym
at 3:30 to 5. Since we have such a short time, please be there and
ready to go at 3:30. For those of you who have been playing
basketball, you will catch up quickly on what we have been doing. No
worries.
For those of you in Rent, I know that your practice is at 5, so if
you could give us as much time as possible before you have to go to
the theatre that would be wonderful. That is one of your main
responsibilities now so don't worry about having to miss some
Softball Practice. Just give yourself what you can and keep me in the
loop.
I anticipate that we will go pretty close to 5 and then move out to
do our stretching and talking in one of the hallways and then do some
Pitcher and Catcher work in the hallways for half an hour or so also
after every practice.
Please let me know if you will not be attending a practice. You are
all adults and I know you have to balance time demands. I just don't
like sudden surprises when I am planning a practice and suddenly a
lot of folks are not there.
As always, I am available by text, phone and email. The Truth is on
the website. And the Dome is your place to use for extra training
whenever you need to.
See you all Monday and I am looking forward to the basketball players
joining us.
Bill - for Mary Jo, Suzie and Jen.
