Day 1

 

Depart Anchorage on Reeve Aleutian Airways bound for Petropavlovsk.

Departure time: 1:30 p.m. (Wednesday or Saturday)

Arrival time: Petropavlovsk 4:30 p.m. (Thursday or Sunday)

Day 2

 

After clearing Russian Customs you will be transferred to your hotel for check-in and an orientation about your tour. Overnight in Petropavlovsk

Day 3

 

After breakfast we will have a city tour of Petropavlovsk. It is a modern Russian town with a population of over 250,000 people. Major industries are fishing and ship repair. Nikolskoye Hill overlooks the waterfront and sprawling shipyards and docks lining Avacha Bay, one of the great natural harbors of the world. We will the local museum and the Institute of Volcanology. After lunch, a boat trip around Avacha Bay. Overnight in Petropavlovsk.

Day 4

 

After breakfast, we travel to a typical Russian dacha, where we will enjoy Russian style picnic lunch. After our lunch we will proceed to the center of town to shop before the stores close for the weekend. Overnight in Petropavlovsk.

Day 5

 

We depart right after breakfast for the Bystraya River, where we will spend the day rafting. Overnight in Petropavlovsk.

Day 6

 

After breakfast, we depart by helicopter to the Valley of the Geysers. This unique and fabulous nature attracts tourists and researchers from all over the world. During the flight you will enjoy the beauty and greatness of active and extinct volcanoes, mountain ranges, taiga, rivers and lakes. As soon as our MI-8 helicopter lands you realize why this valley is considered the Pearl of Kamchatka. We will have tremendous photo opportunities of geysers, perpetual sputters, and mud pots. The Valley of Geysers is hidden in one of the deep canyons of the Kronotsky biosphere preserve, 200 km from Petropavlovsk.. You can only get there by helicopter. We return to our hotel and overnight in Petropavlovsk .

Day 7

 

After breakfast, we again travel by helicopter to south of Kamachata to view the extinct and active volcanoes including Viluchinsky, Gorely, Mutnovsky and many more. We will land to view the beautiful Kurilskoye Lake. Here can see the largest colony of Slaty-backed gulls, many sea birds and maybe a Kamchatka brown bear. We will have a Russian picnic at the lodge located near Khodutka hot springs. We return by helicopter and overnight in Petropavlovsk.

Day 8

 

This is a day of rest and leisure to be spent anyway you might, except that this day may be used to re-schedule previously described events and excursion due to weather cancellations. Overnight in Petropavlovsk.

Day 9

 

After breakfast there might be time for some last minute shopping. Then it is back to the airport for your flight back to Anchorage. Crossing the International Date Line and arriving back on Sunday.
