About United Southeast Alaska Gillnetters Association

     The United Southeast Alaska Gillnetters Association (USAG) is a non-profit organization formed in 1978 to represent & inform SE drift gillnet permit holders of current events affecting the commercial salmon industry.   USAG stays in touch with the following departments and organizations for issues affecting the commercial fishery: Alaskan Legislature, US Congressional Delegation, State of Alaska, Alaska Dept of Fish & Game, National Marine Fishery Service,National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Coast Guard, North Pacific Fisheries Management Council, Alaska Seafood Marketing Association, United Fishermen of Alaska and the Alaska Seafood Council.  We mail a newsletter out a minimum of four times a year to all SE AK drift permit holders.  There is 479 permit holders in the Southeast Alaska drift gillnet fishery.

     USAG had a membership of 200 permit holders and 35 associate members for the 1997 season.  Member benefits include:

 Timely mailings of important information,
 Access to our cell phone plans,
 Ability to apply for  fleet insurance policy,
 A 5% discount will be offered at A & P Markets during the fishing season.
 Health insurance information, 
 Newsletters. 

     Associate members receive almost all of the member benefits.  They do receive all the newsletters, with advertising included, but they do not receive other mailings sent to members who are permit holders. USAG encourages its members to shop at and support our Associate members.  A link to their web page if they have one on the Internet.  We sincerely appreciate the support of all of our associate members and their concern regarding the commercial fishing industry.

     USAG is composed of 8 sub-chapters.  The 8 sub-chapters include the following areas: Ketchikan, Wrangell, Petersburg, Juneau, Haines, North Puget Sound, South Puget Sound, and Seattle.  Each chapter elects a director that forms the USAG Board of Directors.
