Overview of Senator Meyer and UAA.

As a state representative Meyer was first elected to the legislature in 2000 and indicated support for the University in his campaign. In 2004 he supported the budget deal in the House.

In 2006 Representative Meyer supported the University’s capital budget requests as co-chair of the House Finance Committee. In 2008 Representative Meyer strongly supported funding for the Health Sciences Building, repair and building maintenance, and $15 million dollars for planning and design of the sports arena.

In May 2008 Representative Meyer met with the executive committee of the UAA Faculty/Staff Association. Kevin Meyer won the State Senator seat for District O in 2008.

In 2009, Senator Meyer attended the Filipino seminar sponsored by UAA. As chair of the Education Committee, Senator Meyer was very supportive of UA. He was cosponsor of SB236 which increased tax credits and incentives to donation to the University. He was also a cosponsor of SB221 which establishes the Alaska Merit Scholarship program. SB221 was approved and forwarded to the Governor.

In 2011 as chair of the Education Committee, Senator Meyer continued to work on scholarship programs to help students attend UA and voted for SB107 which appropriates funding for engineering facilities at UAA and UAF. Senator Meyer was a member of the Higher Education Committee. Senator Meyer also deserves credit for his help with securing funds for the UAA Sports Arena.
