Overview of Senator Davis and UAA

Senator Davis was elected to the Senate in 2000. She was a member of the Anchorage School Board until her election to the Senate. In 2003, Senator Davis was a cosponsor of a bill to provide $300,000 for instructional equipment, but the bill didn’t pass. Although Senator Davis is a long time supporter of education she voted against the land grant bill in 2005.

In 2006 and 2007 Senator Davis was supportive of the University. In 2008 she spoke in favor of and helped with the capital budget and funding for the Health Sciences Building. She was endorsed by United Academics AAUP/AFT and APEA/AFT in the 2008 election.

In 2009, Senator Davis was a cosponsor for SB23 which would repeal the current defined contribution retirement plans. In 2010, Senator Davis was a cosponsor of SB206 for $50 million each for new engineering buildings at UAA and UAF. She was also a cosponsor of SB221 which establishes the Alaska Merit Scholarship program. SB221 was approved and forwarded to the Governor.

In 2011, Senator Davis was a member of the Education Committee. As a member of the Education Committee Senator Davis voted for SB107 which appropriates funding for engineering facilities at UAA and UAF.
