Overview of Representative Crawford and UAA
Representative Crawford believes in the University. In 2003 he sponsored legislation requesting $300,000 for instructional equipment and improvements to UAA labs although the money was not appropriated. Representative Crawford supported the 2004 budget deal that came out of the House. Representative Crawford supported the 2007 budget bill that was favorable to UA. He received endorsements from APEA/AFT and United Academics during the 2006 election. In 2008 Representative Crawford was much more visible in his support of the university in introducing an amendment for increasing the university’s budget. He was also very helpful with the capital budget for UAA. He was endorsed by United Academics AAUP/AFT and APEA/AFT in 2008. In 2009, Representative Crawford was an advocate for the university as a member of the House Finance Committee and as a member of the Conference Committee. Representative Crawford employed a UAA student as a legislative intern. Representative Crawford also was a primary sponsor of HB54 and a co-sponsor for HB30 which would repeal the current defined contribution retirement plans. Representative Crawford met with the association’s executive committee in the fall of 2009.
