Overview of Representative Gardner and UAA
Representative Gardner was elected to the house in 2004. While she voted against the land grant bill, she is supportive of the university. Representative Gardner met with the UAA Faculty and Staff Association in 2005 and in 2008 to discuss the university and its needs. She assisted with drafting a letter of support for the Integrated Science Building which was signed by 31 members of the House of Representatives. She received endorsements from APEA/AFT and United Academics during the 2006 election. In 2008 Representative Gardner was the only member of the House Finance University Subcommittee to vote against cuts in the UA budget request. She was endorsed by United Academics AAUP/AFT and APEA/AFT in 2008. She attended the USUAA event on campus in January 2009. Representative Gardner continued to be supportive of the university as a member of the House university subcommittee. Representative Gardner was a co-sponsor for HB30 and HB54 which would repeal the current defined contribution retirement plans. Representative Gardner was a co-sponsor for HB94 for Postsecondary Scholarships.
