What next? questions are gaining in popularity with the right wing. These questions are used to belittle and dismiss fair-minded persons and causes. A typical anti-gay attack sounds like this: What next, people marrying sheep and goats? My response is Let's deal with that when sheep and goats start asking to get married! The what next? questions that really need to be asked are What next, Prevo-cams in everyone's bedrooms to ensure compliance with Prevo's interpretation of the Bible? and What next, Alaska Department of Revenue collecting mandatory 'tithes' from all of us on behalf of the Anchorage Baptist Temple?
These are important questions because the Anchorage Baptist Temple already functions as a shadow government in Alaska. It is now seeking to establish its interpretation of the Bible as the law of the land. If it prevails in this effort, it will surely become bolder in establishing other Anchorage Baptist Temple policies as law in Alaska. Would it then take over the public schools? Outlaw other churches? Execute those accused of witchcraft?
In effect, Anchorage Baptist Temple is already trying to outlaw the beliefs of some churches. For example, Lamb of God Metropolitan Community Church in Anchorage would apparently perform same-sex marriages but is to be permanently bound from doing so by legislation backed by Anchorage Baptist Temple. Will Prevo-ites later decree Jewish, Islamic, or other non-Christian marriages unlawful? What next, will they turn back the hands of time to forbid inter-racial marriages? The time to stop these control-freaks is now by voting NO on 2!
