A Brief History of Scott

I'm a graduate of the California Institute of Technology who majored in mechanical engineering. I'm a fan of airplanes, so I probably would have gone with aeronautical engineering, but Caltech doesn't really have an undergraduate aero program. In light of recent events, that's probably for the best.

I live in East Oakland, which can get kind of exciting, and work as a mechanical engineer for a consumer product design company in San Francisco, California.

Between graduating college and winding up back here in the CA, I spent a little time working in construction in Anchorage, Alaska (where I was born, raised and deprived of a childhood even approaching normal) and equally little working for The Boeing Company in Seattle, WA. Seattle, which, despite everything you may have heard, is a crappy place to live. The Boeing thing was an interesting experience, though in the end it didn't work out due to very poor high-level corporate management. My opinion, of course. If you want a link to Boeing, you are going to have to find one for yourself. I will, however, give you a link to the government page for the project I was working on, the Joint Strike Fighter. (Boeing lost out to Lockheed on this one. Oh, well.)

If you find yourself in need of a drafting service, allow me to direct you to the Simple Mind Design home page. Manual, CAD, architectural, and mechanical, SMD does it all.

Those of you craving greater detail on my professional and educational qualifications may refer to my resume (PDF), or if you prefer, here it is again in PostScript. It isn't absolutely up-to-date, as it doesn't include my current place of employ, but it is close. Please note that said resume was created and is maintained with the tactical nuclear weapon of scientific typesetting, LaTeX. Thank you, Donald and Leslie.

I have recently become involved in auto racing, contesting two Formula Dodge Western Region races, and doing quite well thank you. Results and info may be found on the Formula Dodge website. The events in question are rounds 3 and 4 of the 2001 series, November 17th.

I am also building a Ford GT40 replica. Chassis, body, suspension, and a whole bunch of other stuff was manufactured by GT40 Replication LTD in Auckland New Zealand. I might put some pictures of the build up at some point.

Instead of continuing to natter on, thus adding content (however dubious) to the web, (can't have that!) I'll just do what everybody else does and throw in a bunch of links. What do you expect? I'm on my lunch hour.

That is all.
