River Rafting

Hiking Trails and Wild Berry Picking

Sheep Mountain Lodge is located near the Matanuska Glacier and the world-famous Lion's Head river run on the Matanuska River. Make our lodge your home after a thrilling day on the river. We have over 12 miles of cleared trails for easy walks and challenging hikes into the mountains. In the fall, berry hunters will make a tasty haul of the many types of lush fruits.

Glacier Hiking / Trekking

Photography

Our lodge is located a short 12 miles from access to the Matanuska Glacier. You can spend a few hours exploring the glacier or take a guided hike to see the glacier's wondrous features. Sheep Mountain is a shutterbug's paradise with breath-taking views of Lion's Head, the Matanuska River Valley and the lofty, rocky crags of the Talkeetna and Chugach mountains.

Mountain Biking

Wildlife Viewing

Extensive local roads and trails provide a variety of options for mountain biking and hiking through scenic countryside around the lodge. Sheep Mountain shelters a large population of Dall Sheep. Moose and sheep are commonly viewed in the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Flight Seeing

Cross-Country Skiing

Local bush pilots can provide exciting aerial views of glaciers, wildlife and scenery. A highlight of your trip to Alaska is a flight over a magnificent mountain landscape in a small plane. Over 12 miles of classical and skate skiing trails are groomed for beginner to advanced skill levels. In addition, there is access to unlimited backcountry skiing. After a day's ski, relax in our woodstove sauna or Jacuzzi hot tub.
