Gerry Sanger has explored Prince William Sound for 28 years, including 19 years operating Sound Eco Adventures. His career in marine biology included tours with the Smithsonian Institution, the National Marine Fisheries Service, and the National Marine Mammal Lab, where he participated in projects on plankton, oceanography, Northern Fur Seals and seabirds. His field work took him throughout the eastern North Pacific Ocean and the Bering Sea. His formal education includes a BS in Fisheries Biology from Humboldt State University, plus several oceanography and biology courses while employed as a Biological Oceanographer at the University of Washington.

In 19 years with the U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Alaska, Gerry specialized on ecological studies of seabirds, and most recently with surveys in Prince William Sound after the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill. He recently served on the Public Advisory Committee of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council and on the boards of the Alaska Wilderness Recreation and Tourism Association and Prince William Soundkeeper.

Being an avid nature photographer, Gerry volunteers for the North Gulf Oceanic Society and Eye of the Whale Research by taking "photo I.D." images of whales during SEA tours to help track their movements in Prince William Sound.
