Scientific Fishery Systems, Inc
Fisherman’s Associate allows a fisherman to store, retrieve, display, and manipulate catch statistics, oceanographic data, atmospheric data, bathymetry, tracks, and nautical information. In the future the Fisherman’s Associate will be integrated with other sensors (GPS, fish finders, surface temperature, gear temperature, air temperature, current position), providing a seamless mechanism for storing data collected by each individual fisherman. Now it will be possible for a fisherman to personalize his data, integrate other data sources, review all past fishing trips, and plan future trips using all of the available data. By employing Fisherman’s Associate, it will be possible for commercial fishermen to reduce bycatch, increase target catch, decrease operational costs, and maximize profit. Initial market analysis has been extremely favorable for this product.
An example of a typical map created within Fisherman’s Associate is shown below. This plot shows a portion of the Bering Sea with Walley Pollock catch statistics from a trawler with Sea Surface Temperature and Oceanographic contours. The catch statistics shown are Catch Per Unit Effort (CPUE) for Walleye Pollock from 1989. The software will be sold for individual regions that are 4 degrees in latitude by 8 degrees in longitude. There are 18 regions available within the North Pacific from 180 W to 132 W and from 50 N to 62 N.
