Education as a key to opportunity and social mobility
Recognizing a variety of ideas, values, and cultures
The environemnt in which schools operate is influenced on behalf of stduents and their families

Kenny Lake School Staff, Principal, Students, and Community committed serious time and effort into Kenny Lake School's Accreditation 2001. The information they gained and the directions they sought promote the very ideal of education. The vision is clear and expectations are high in addressing every facet of the child and his life. The document must be revisited annually.

Staff, students, and programs were reviewed to provide the most
up-to-date information. The document ensures goals are pursued and existing standards are continually met.

Based on this experience, what do you feel you still may need to
learn? How to transfer the page-maker disk properly...There was some computer gliches in getting the previous year's document working, so all the information had to be re-typed. It was a great experience to criticaly review the students, staff, and programs within the school.

I believe in school accredidation and would like to see every school receive accredidation. It demonstrates the committment to excellence students and schools strive to achieve. It is a tremendous amount of work. It requires committment and vision from all staff, students, and community. An administrator who leads a school community through the process deserves a lot of respect.

Indicators

The school community works within the framework of policies, aws, and regulations enacted by local, state, and federal authoriees
The environment in which schools operate is influenced on behalf of students and their families
Using legal systems to protect students rights and improve student opportunities

There are numerous district forms that must be signed by parents and students to ensure compliance with district, state, and federal laws such as on-campus driving, controlled substances, and various liability forms. Students were given these papers, but the return rate was not at 100%. I created a spreadsheet to consolidate the required forms. Students were then given ultimatums for return. For example, computer privileges were denied if students had not returned the computer usage agreement. Once driving privilieges were denied or the possiblity of into going on atrip arose, the forms began to come in. Some was laziness, some was lack of good organization on our part, and some irresponsibility. The spreadsheet allowed all to know what they were missing and how to get it.

Based on the experience, what did I learn? I would try to make a grand collection of all required documents right down to teacher sylabbus and the beginning of school with a systematci checklist. No doubt, there will be additional items arise but consilidation is so important. Otherwise several individuals are gathering the same information from
different sources and the paperwork trail becomes a nightmare. I also learned I need awesome office help.
