Richard Miller Carvings

Richard Miller is a renowned Alaskan Artist whose works are displayed in numerous galleries and museums. He is best known for his intricately detailed carvings depicting the Alaska Native and Eskimo people. Each piece is carved in Whale Bone with some featuring Walrus Ivory faces, hands or weapons along with rawhide and trade bead accessories. Various furs such as mink, weasel, rabbit, coyote and fox, are a few used as trimming.

 

   The Hunter
This Native Hunter is carved from Whale Bone and stands approx. 18 inches tall. He is carrying his bow, a quiver full of arrows, a skinning knife, a bedroll and a satchel. The base he is standing on is a shoulder blade of a whale which measures almost 2 feet in diameter.

 Kneeling Hunter
This Native Hunter is crouched behind chunks of whale bone for cover and stands approx. 10 inches high. His base is part of a whales shoulder blade and stretches over 17 inches. The hunter himself is carved from whale bone with various ivory & rawhide accessories. He is carrying a bow, a quiver with arrows, knife, snare and satchel.
