Different districts are trying different things. A friend a mine sent me a link to a news story about a Welsh school that was posted during June, 2007. It was posted by the Independent News and Media Limited, but is no longer online that I know of.
I saved a copy of it and posted it on my site. No more school as council opens 'learning centres'
This experiment is taking place at the Knowsley Council in Merseyside which has a number of links on their education page, including a page on 'Building Schools for the Future', which appears to be a good survey of what is happening.
Speaking of non-radical change, we're experimenting with a four-year plan for presenting a basic curriculum in Information and Communication Technology at SAHS.
