Pete Tryon, Computer Teacher

As they say in the trade, "This is a work in progress..." I don't have much to say, but as a computer teacher, I'll put a page up so that others may improve on the idea. (I will admit that times have sure changed since using a 110 baud modem to run BASIC programs in high school in 1967! Saving a file meant printing out a paper tape with holes punched in it.)

Having been at Bartlett since student-teaching here in 1981, I have enjoyed watching generations of students move through the school. Interests outside of teaching computer classes include cross-country skiing and whitewater boating. (You've gotten this far through these pages and not figured that out yet?) While not having time to continue coaching, I have been involved with computerizing ski results. We are continuing our work towards the fulfillment of Tryon's Maxim

"I don't mind typing anything, ... ONCE!"

Speaking of not typing things more than once, a few years ago some friends and I were sitting around in Boulder City, planning food for a 21 day Grand Canyon trip. Hours into the discussion of how many ounces of pasta to buy, I decided that 'there has got to be a better way.' One may not agree that this is better, but it certainly is different. On a good day with no complaints from the others, I can produce a shopping list for a 20 day trip in 45 minutes. It also produces lists broken up by day for packing on the river. This does actually work, but as someone once told me, 'you get what you pay for...' Consider the Master Food Planner SS.
