Skiing and Hiking
It rarely snows in Bellingham, but the North Cascades are directly to the east. Surely there is skiing there! I look forward to finding out more about it!
- The Nooksack Nordic Ski Club appears to be the local cross-country skiing connection. Their home trails (Salmon ridge) are 45 miles east of Bellingham (That's no worse than going to Hatcher Pass from Anchorage. And there have been some years that we have had to do that!)
- The Mt. Baker Ski area is a downhill area 52 miles to the east of Bellingham. They had 1140 inches of snow in 1999!
- North Cascades National Park (nps site)
- Methow Valley - I've started hearing about this place. It sounds pretty neat! But the only problem is that I think that it's on the wrong side of the pass that snows close in the winter. But we'll see...
- TravelWashington site with lots of ski areas
- Whistler Mountain - welcome to the big time! It's not too far, but it is on the other side Vancouver. Presumably transportation will improve after the Olympics in 2010.
