Daily Requirements: Always bring a willingness to learn and explore, notebook, journal, and pen or pencil.
Make-up work: It is the student's responsibility to find out and make up any work missed due to an excused absence. (Work missed due to an unexcused absence cannot be made up). Missed tests and quizzes must be made up outside of class time. The student has one day for every day missed to make-up work. Certain labs and simulations may not always be duplicated if a student is absent. Because of the nature of simulations and lab exercises if a student is absent during a simulation or lab exercise those points may be lost and not be made up.
Course Requirements: Reading and writing on a regular basis. Library investigation, magazine or newspaper critiques, current events, lecture notes, semester projects, presentations, mock trials, games, simulations, research paper, tests, quizzes, on line assignments, and more!
Essays and Writing Journal: A class journal is required. It must be a separate spiral notebook. A separate assignment sheet will explain the journal and how it will be used for this class.
Other policies: A. Cheating will not be tolerated. Cheating is not only copying someone elses work it is allowing them to copy that work. "Helping" your friend will be considered cheating. ALWAYS do your own work unless otherwise noted by the teacher.
B. Common courtesy and good classroom behavior is expected from all.
C. Students must be able to separate knowledge from belief. An open-minded ability to learn about different ideas and cultures related to this course without having ones private belief system threatened is essential. Specifically, this course will require an understanding of the five major religions, different cultural practices, events, and different cultural ideas than those accepted by your culture, regardless of what your personal beliefs are.
Extra credit: I do not expect any of my students to do any extra work for this course.
Late work: I will accept a late assignment up to one week after it is due for half credit. One week is the equivalent of five days after the assignment is due. After one week I will not accept late work.
Tardy Policy: I do not give "free" tardies. Consequences for tardiness are as follows:
1st Tardy: 10 minute detention in my room at lunch.
2nd Tardy: Clean all of my tables.
3rd Tardy: Clean all of my tables and my board.
4th Tardy: Clean all of my tables, board and windows.
5th Tardy: Clean all tables, board, windows, and scrape gum off bottom of tables.
I have never had a 6th Tardy. Dont be the first person to get one. The main office supports my use of this tardy policy. If you fail to show for one of the above detentions work details will be assigned after school. Im sure I can find something for you to do.
Web Page: I have created a Web Page that has the reading assignments for the semester. If you are absent you might check it out for your assignments. These assignments are subject to change. Please pay attention in class. The address is: http://www.alaska.net/~prospero. My new school email address is: Kirk_Kelly@ asd.k12.ak.us> As this email address is on my computer at school I will be unable to answer emails during holidays.
