During a divorce, it is important to consider the possibility that you could die before the divorce is final. If this occurs, and proper planning is not put in place, your spouse may be considered to survive you. If you have a valid will, it is possible that your spouse will receive whatever is set forth in the will. If you die without a will, also called intestate, your wife will receive a large share of your assets even though you are divorcing. Generally, people desire to limit a soon to be ex-spouse's share as much as possible. Estate planning is an area of the law which Pradell and Associates handles for clients. With the termination dust on the mountains and winter setting in, be sure to take the right steps to insure that you will be protected:

Wear your seat belt. It's the law. If you don't, a jury can reduce your award even if the other person caused the accident.

Maintain Auto Insurance. It's the law. Also, purchase uninsured and underinsured motorist protection, in case you are injured by someone without insurance or with too little to cover your injuries.

Properly maintain the premises. Be sure to sand/salt your walkways at work and home so that no one slips and falls while on the premises. Make sure insurance covers all of your property from losses.
