SCUBA INFO

Beach Diving

Beach diving is the most common diving around Kodiak for new divers. When you add dry suit diving to the equation, it makes sence to start out from the beach. We have some great beach dives at Mission Beach, Ram Site, VFW Beach and Pearson's Cove.

Boat Diving

Once you have mastered the drysuit, great dives await at Viesoki Island, The Pinnacle and Stripe Rock. There are many other dive sites, anywhere there is a rock outcropping you are bound to find something of interest.

Photography

Photography subjects are limitless, especially with a macro lens on your camera. But it never seems to fail that when you plan for the macro you wish you had the wide angle lens on. Either way, you will get some great shots of the sea life below!

Spearfishing

Fish abound in the waters around Kodiak. Depending on your prey, you can successfully spear fish from April through October, or later. There are two weeks in August that are the best time if you are specifically looking a spearing a Halibut. You should always use a bouy set up for large fish.

Wrecks

Most wrecks around Kodiak are in deep waters. However; we are in the process of locating some of the more shallow wrecks so that all of the wreck divers can enjoy their discoveries in the Kodiak waters.

Things to see

Common sea life includes star fish, leather stars, brittle stars, sea stars, sea pens, anenomies, decorator crabs, tanner crabs, dungeness crabs, hermit crabs, box crabs, nudibranches (multiple varieties), bass, rock fish, ling cod, wolf eels, halibut, octopus, sea lions and more.
